Hello Fellow Nilgirians,

And thank you for your interest in Neo-Nilgiri. Sorry it's been quiet for so
long. I planned making better progress at the beginning of the year but my
plans got sidetracked when an opportunity to buy a house entered the picture.
This was in early February. Unfortunately, like so many other things, the
house needed a lot of work which was a major priority and I've gotten the
house to a place where it can be comfortably liveable. Some examples of the
things I've had to contend with: All plumbing leaked, roach infestation caused
me to rip out all kitchen cabinets, no working appliances, no heating through
the cold winter. Until a couple weeks ago I didn't get a stove in, and we got
one fully working bathroom, and the heater now works. There's still a number
of things on my list to do there, but that can be taken care of in due time
while money is being saved to do the major overhaul.

Since I have no money for anything else extraneous, Neo-Nilgiri is my priority
now. I've started working again on getting this done.

It shows what bugs have been given priority and also indicate what our
accomplishments and what needs to be taken care of.

So there are three major phases:
.
Unit Testing - making sure that individual things work. This would be things
like making sure all the skills and spells work without error. The roadmap
indicates this is 87% done. Before my haitus it was sitting at around 90%.
But I think we can get that to 100% by end of May. I think the testers
agree the remaining issues are pretty minor right now.
.
Integration Testing - This is testing the mud works as a whole. This would
be things like making sure that skills are learned in a reasonable manner,
money retains value, players earn experience and level in an engaging way.
.
Release - This is what you guys are waiting for. Post release there will be
some minor development but things that shouldn't impact game-play. Like the
board (don't think we have one working yet), and using the Nilgiri client. And
also things that work behind the scenes, like immortal commands.
.
I haven't put a timeline on integration, although I don't imagine it'd be much
more than a month. By then I'd also be open to taking in a few more testers
so that a good sample of classes and problems are dealt with during the
integration phase.

I recently purchased storage at the Inn, but when I returned today, was unable t
o return to my storage.

I typed 'rent' and the Innkeeper offered to rent me new storage.

I typed 'kick' and after clicking my heels 3 times, found myself still in the In
n's reception area.

Does anyone know the correct method for accessing one's storage?

One night as you lay resting at the inn, the warmth of the evening and the
clean, comfy sheets of the inn's bed encourages you to sleep. As you dream...

The scene opens up and you are standing in a forested glade. There seem to
be all manner of spritely folk about, some with horns on their heads, and
some with cloven hooves. The cacophany of murmurs are such that you can't
really tell what any one entity is saying to the other.

A scantily clad and very ancient female fae walks in from the nether and
speaks:

"'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Oh, pardon me, I have the wrong set of notes with me today. As I was going
to say. Welcome all ye who have presented themselves here today [*she pauses
and eyes you mysteriously*]. The summer's heat is upon the mortal realm and
we shall make due with the bounty the land affords us this year with a
celebration of sorts to entice and enchant the spirits within and the
hearts of mankind who would seek to become more in tune with nature.

While the mid-year solstice has past, let us rejoice in the bounty of
the earth and present before me [or in mudmail] what represents the good and
beautiful in the world, and what represents the change of time itself.

Deliver these items to me by the stroke of midnight of the next full moon
and a bounty of food or drink shall be yours to behold."

You wake up befuddled, but seem to have the notion that the ancient fae
wanted two items, one that represented good and beauty, and the other that
represented time itself. Simply presenting items doesn't seem like it would
be enough to convince any fae that an object of the mortal realm would have
any good or beauty in it, so you feel like you might want to explain your
choices a little bit on a parchment.

player. Mortals of immortals may participate.]

I like the idea of Heal and Harm casting twice but up until level 30 it
can't really be relied upon. I tend to keep people completely healed
meaning I only need to heal once. If I activated it twice then the extra
hp from the second heal isn't all that great. I'd find it more helpful if
instead of it casting twice...the original heal had a chance of creating
an extra buffer of hp past the maximum amount. Temporary hp that is
depleted before the characters real hp is damaged and can't be healed.

The chances of adding the temporary hp would be the same as your
casting a second heal with a level 30's heals always adding temporary
hp. I'd set the extra hp to like 50 or 100. Think of it like vitality except
that the extra hp can't be healed and it fades after combat. This
temporary hp shouldn't be able to exceed a set amount like 150 to 200.

For example...we have Joe the Warrior and Bob the Cleric and Joe has
500hp and they're fighting some random monster.

The monster attacks Joe and deals 100 damage to him bringing Joe to
400hp. Bob gets lucky and grants Joe temporary hp with his heal setting
Joe's hp to 500 and giving him 100 temporary hp.

The monster attacks Joe again dealing 200 damage this time. The
temporary hp absorbs the first 100 points and Joe takes the other 100
bringing him to 400 hp. Bob heals but doesn't set off the temporary hp
boost. Joe is at 500 hp again.

The monster attacks Joe and does another 200 damage setting Joe to 300
hp. Bob heals and activates the temporary hp bringing Joe to 400hp and giving
him 100 temporary hp.

The monster attacks again dealing 75 points of damage. The temporary hp
absorbs the damage leaving Joe with 400hp and 25 temporary hp. Bob heals
Joe and grants temporary hp. Joe has 500hp and 125 temp hp.

And so on...


As far as Harm...double casting harm seems like an alright idea. I can't really

think of an alternative except for maybe just giving the cleric access to a few
more damaging or useful spells.

I don't think as many will read this on the Argo board but I'll post about the
other ideas later...maybe. xD

Idea 1 MULTIPLE STRIKING SPELLS
Heal and Harm strike multiple times at higher levels.

For example, a level 26 cleric casts heal. It will have a chance of activating
twice so potentially that's
+100 hp
+100 hp
And by level 30 the cleric will always activate heal twice.
The reasoning is that experienced spellcasters become more powerful.

Pros: Clerics maintain their flavor: a class that supports with spells.
Additionally, the cleric gets a powerful leveling spell in harm. This makes
more sense than clerics with a second attack, which would imply that they
can fight as well as thieves. Also, it would be easy to code.
Cons: But now harm is almost as good as Death Hand?! Well change it so that it
removes all but 20d10 hitpoints from the victim. Now harm truly becomes a
spell that doesn't kill, but really hurts like it is intended to be.


Idea 2 REDUCED CASTING COST
When a cleric reaches level 26, all practiced spells require less mana to
cast. The amount of mana required reduces gradually until at level 34,
spells cost 25% less mana to cast.

For example, at level 26 summon might cost 49 mana. At level 29, 45 mana. And
so on until at level 34 summon costs 38 mana.
The reasoning is that experienced spellcasters become more efficient.

Pros: Clerics become even better at their support roles than before, with
miracle potentially costing only 57 mana.
Cons: They are still very hard to level because these changes don't give them
much of a boost in spell damage per mana point. But with mana gain each
level and reduced cost each level it will be worth it finally.

Calculation details:
maxLevel - preReductionLevel = reductionSteps
34 - 25 = 9
maxPercentReduction / reductionSteps = percentReductionPerLevel
25 / 9 = 2.777
Cost of summon at 26:
baseCost - baseCost * (percentReductionPerLevel * (currentLevel -
preReductionLevel))/100 = newCostOfSummon
50 - 50 * (2.777 * (26 - 25))/100 = 48.6115
Round up to 49. Summon costs 49 mana at level 26.


Idea 3 HEALER's STANCE
A skill that level 27 clerics can practice. When a cleric enters healer's
stance, he or she attacks only once in two rounds, like in mounted combat.
He or she will be out of reach of frenzy, charge, bash, and sweep, and will
take reduced damage from breaths and spells.
Healer's stance can only be activated when a player is not being attacked
and will be disabled as soon as someone lands a hit on the player.

The reasoning is that a veteran cleric who has aided his or her comrades in
countless battles would know how to stay out of harm's way.

Pros: The cleric becomes the ultimate support character and everyone will want
one of these in their team.
Cons: The skill gives absolutely no help in leveling the cleric. Also pretty
hard to code, I would imagine. Might be better to just work on Neo instead
lol.


So please voice your support/dissent of these ideas. I want to get everyone
on board with only 1 idea eventually, then we can nudge the coders (we might
need to use battering rams) into getting it done.

ON THE SUBJECT OF HIGH LEVEL CLERICS

There's incentive to level all non-cleric classes to 27+
-Fighters because of the extra attacks and backstab multiplier
-Mages because the small rise in hp, mana, and save vs spell count for a lot
when it enables you to cast more Hands of Death
-Druids because of the extra attack in forests (and cataclysm if properly
balanced)
But there's little incentive to level clerics beyond 23 when Miracle becomes
more effective. I appreciate the Greater Protection but it does not restore
the balance of power by a long shot. I believe it's time to reward all those
who took their time to level a cleric beyond 25.

I do not ask this lightly because I know you coders have a lot of things to do
in Neo, but a quick fix to the current game now would pay off in value long
before Neo rolls in. Also, any balancing done here will also mean less
balancing needed during Neo development I hope. It has always pained me that
my main character will have to stop leveling and become a support for my
warrior or thief, so I have given much thought to what changes can provide just
enough incentive to for high level clerics without unbalancing the game. I have
many ideas for making clerics level-worthy and here I present three of my best:

So some people have been asking me the status of Nilgiri. Yes, we're still
working on it. Much of the work right now is in the hands of Rivin.
Rivin's current task is to complete the skill tree for Neo-nilgiri. I may
have talked about this some time ago that we may be moving towards a
classless system. So that the skills you gain will be dependent on the
skills you have and how proficient you are in them. In a perfect system,
this would naturally land you in the traditional mu/cl/th/wa/dr classes.
It is not an easy task to make that system perfect. A number of games
avoid doing this sort of thing, but here at Nilgiri we make things hard on
ourselves :) in order to make a more perfect universe. So you haven't
heard a lot from me lately, because my task is mostly done. You never hear
a lot from Rivin to begin with so don't expect that to change.

But once that is near complete, we'll need a large force of player
testers to make sure everything works fine. And that will probably be the
next time you'll hear from me. So sit tight. I know it's been a lot longer
in the waiting than I would have wanted, but Neo-nilgiri will one day make
it's debut.

It has been since November 2007 that I had anything to report, so I think I'll
explain myself a little here. I have been on haitus. I guess you could call it
burnout. I've worked really hard at neo for a period of time and it became
impossible form me to sustain that sort of momentum. Perhaps because of a
perceived lack of enthusiasm or support for neo-nilgiri. After the winter
break in 2007 it became harder and harder for me to go back and take up that
torch again. I knew I'd get back to working on neo-nilgiri because I would never

abandon Nilgiri. But exactly when that would happen I could not really say. I
started some smaller unrelated projects that I knew I could finish to help
bring back the spirit I needed that I could finish things, that would help me to

eventually continue working on neo-nilgiri. Also, vacation for a couple weeks in

the Philippines also helped. :)
.
So I am back working on Neo-Nilgiri. I actually started work a couple weeks ago
cataloging what still needs to be done. Fixed up a couple loose things I had
just left unifinished. And started working on one of the last most important
milestones: skill development. We are developing a skill tree for Neo-Nilgiri
so players have to grow their skills. Also Neo will be a classless mud system,
where the type of stats you have determines your aptitude for skills.
.
I think after a month we should be ready to start having few more select people
start testing some skills out, help me find areas that are lacking. So that is
where we are. More to come later :)

Many you have asked and inquired about Neo-nilgiri so I thought it'd be a
good point to check-in with you guys how it is going. There is (of course)
a lot of work to still yet be done and I truly hoped we would be along
much further than it is now. But careers and life have a way of getting in
the way. I believe in my last post I said we were hoping to start player
testing in August for an October release. We have started some player
testing but not to the extent I would like since componants of skills and
combat have yet to be put in. However the world conversion on everything
else from socials to shopkeepers have been progressing steadily. Maybe one
of the ways you might have a feel for how this is going by the line count
that I keep of how much has gone into the new code.

Current code is about 89,073 lines
.
Neo-Nilgiri code today has 77,903 lines..
* August 1 - 69,652 lines
* Jun 16 - 61,857 lines
.
(By other standards Medievia has 563,998 lines of code in Nov, 2006.. Mume
has 151,152 lines of C/C++ code + 316,487 lines of mudlle code..)
.
So there is steady progression towards completion. I think when
Neo-Nilgiri reaches the current code base size we'll be in a very very
good place.
.
Like I've said before, most of the code is really meant more for helping
the immortals govern the mud effectively. However lately the code has seen
a few more interesting features that are going in that might benefit the
mortals a little more:
.
* 7 New player races
* 2 New player classes
* items have temporary spell affects (i.e. casting bless on an item works)
* Banking system that supports multiple accounts
* Removed gem/gold commerce in favor of bank note commerce
* Auction/sale of items sold at shopkeeper in a free market economy
.
Many are concerned over a player-wipe. I will say that there will be a
conversion, but to what extent is still debated among the deities.
.
So that is where we are today. No promises of what the future holds. I believe
around January Neo-Nilgiri will hopefully be open for business.

I have done some work on races that are slated to be introduced for neo-
nilgiri. I have listed them below with their respective modifiers.

I also have been working (not very hard) on a Necromancer class. And will be
making changes to the druid class.

I have also listed the new (and some current) mobile types (classes) below.

What I am looking for is feedback. If you think no one will ever play a player
race, I would like your input. If you are as excited as a 10 year old girl

So, it would seem that there were interesting interpretations as to what
constitutes as "floral". By its basic definition, I was aiming for flowers
to decorate a spring festival, but a lot of what was received were floral
(or plant-like) in nature, which is the other definition of floral. And,
there were those who asked what it meant by floral, to which I replied,
either what one would find at a floral shop or at a spring festival.

A few of you went purely for plant material, and well, I don't think
rotting branches or mold are good choices to put on display to celebrate
life, beginnings, and seasonal renewal.

The point scoring went as follows: flowers = 2, plants = 1, floral (non
flowers) = 1, non-floral/plant = -1 (the rotting stuff went into this
last category). Points from duplicate items were not counted.

Dear Gods,

In my travels here so far, I have come upon two ideas that may help these lands.


1. I've noticed we have the ability to buy 5 potions from a shop, but we can't
take
just 5 potions from our pouch. We have to take all or just one. It would help
greatly if say get 5*Zefr leaves would get 5 leaves from your pouch.

2. My second one I will admit is a little selfish, but it could help just
about anyone too. I would like to suggest a new Druid skill (or it doesn't have

to be a skill and anyone could do it) of BUNDLE. Bundle would make it possible
to take say 10 healing leaves, bundle them together to create one leaf with
10 bites, when you examine or herb lore or identify it, it would tell you how
many bites are left. the max amount would of course be up to you, but I think
10 max would be a good number. it would help reduce inventory carried and
just in general clean things up a bit.

Oh, p.s. Make more single character area's, not everyone likes to multi-play..

All,

We've implemented changes to the game which are meant to keep the game
current. However, it will have the impact of changing the game in a
possibly drastic way.

The mud was originally written to have a highest mortal level of 20.
However, the code for saving roll functionality appears to not have grown
with number of mortal levels. In addition, the saving_throw is only
dependent on the level of the target and his/her equipment. No weight
is place on the effectiveness of the caster. Because of this, at a high
level, a PC or mob will successfully save almost all the time.

This has now changed. The higher level the caster is and the more potent
the spell, the harder it will be to save against. So when you head back out
there, be careful and watch out for those casters.

There are a few important changes that are being implemented that will
undoubtedly affect the way the game is played, especially by the
oligarchy.
.
Multiclass is being removed. Skills that are not of your primary class
will be taken away. I know many have paid a big price in tokens, but I
believe you have gained a great deal from use your secondary and
tertiary skills and no compensation will be given.
.
You cannot double resistances up with your racial resistance to modify
phyiscal damage to ever be reduced more than 1/2.
.
Supplemental hitpoints, mana and damage are being curved. This means
after a certain point of gaining +hitpoint, +mana and +damage equipment
your effective points will not be accumulated at the normal 1 to 1 rate
but at a lower rate.
.
For example:
.
The current schedule for the hitpoint curve is:
+1 - +100 : 1 to 1 ratio
+101 - +200 : 2 to 1 ratio
+201 - infinity : 4 to 1 ratio
.
A player has 200 normal hitpoints but he has modifiers that totals +99
hitpoints. His ratio from actual to effective hitpoints will be 1 to 1
and not modify his total hitpoints which will be 299.
.
A player has 200 normal hitpoints but he has modifiers that totals +150
hitpoints. His first +100 hitpoints remain +100 hitpoints but his
remaining +50 hitpoints will modify at a 2 to 1 ratio. So although his
total hitpoints are: 350 his effective hitpoints are
200 + (100/1 + 50/2) = 325.

A player has 200 normal hitpoints but he has modifiers that total +232
hitpoints. His first +100 hitppoints remain +100 hitpoints but his second
+100 hitpoints will modify at a 1 to 2 ratio and his remaining +32
hitpoints will modify at a 4 to 1 ratio. So although his total hitpoints
are: 432 his effective hitpoints are 200 + (100/1 + 100/2 + 32/4) = 358
.

There are a number of reasons these changes are being implemented:

We need to start moving in a direction where both continents of Jora and
Argoceania can interact on some level and that cannot be done unless the
players from both places are on par with each other.

A single person should not ever be a one man army against mobs or other
players. There should be mobs in the realm that all players still
respect.

We need less emphasis on equipment.

Here on Nilgiri the Forgotten World player passwords are encrypted so that
neither immortal nor implementor can ever obtain the password of any given
player. Implementors and only implementors have the ability to circumvent
the password prompt and login players at will and we only excercise this
ability under extremely rare circumstances. Now there are unscrupulous
muds and other internet services out there that will not encrypt your
password and will indeed log those passwords for malignant purposes
because chances are people do not change their passwords from service to
service. If you are tempted to login to another mud you will probably
mindlessly use the same or similar password to create a character on that
other mud as you have already used here on Nilgiri. Avoid this at all
times! I personally have the practice of using passwords in some form of
'ThisMudsImplementorEatsCowDungForBreakfast' when visitting other muds.
It lets the implementors of those rotten muds what you think of password
snooping. Be careful where you use your passwords because you could also
endanger more important personal items than mud equipment and gold like
real life e-mail and bank accounts.

It was night and there were rumors. Rumors of a great evil that plagued a
mountain. An entire mountain and the surrounding hills and valley. The evil had
a name. A name so ancient that all who knew it had died and those who would
still remember chose not to.

This is the story of a humble thief and the great battle against the great
black dragon know only as Golgoth the ancient evil.

The mages were the first to fall. Their magic has weakened him considerably but
his power all at once overwhelmed them. The warriors and druids fought at the
front. Swords blazing and staves calling on the very power of nature to bind
him in vines and earth.

He reared back as the earth rose up to meet him and drug him down. The vines bou
nd him as the warriors struck with their combined fury. The clerics summoned
their holy wrath on his evil and he writhed in agony and disorientation. The
clerics were the next to fall.

All at once the dragon broke vines restricting his head and breathed a great
stream of acid. The clerics had grouped to avoid being hit but in turn had made
themselves an easier target for the dragon's wrath. They were reduced to a
gurgling, boiling, smoking mass of flesh and bones.

Myself, and others like me fired our bows relentlessly. Aiming arrows enchanted
by cleric's holy magic. The least intelligent among our ranks sprang forward
with the dragon bound to plunge his dagger into his eye. At the last second he
snapped his jaws and our friend was no more.

Enraged, the warriors went into a berserker rage and easily wielded their two-
handed weapons with one and attacked the dragon with renewed fervor. The druids
summoned huge living trees to aid them in battle. Each one was struck down by
the dragon's mighty tail and splintered against the rock.

The thief had one friend among the fighters and he was the most enraged.
Picking up a fallen comrade's axe he plunged it and his own battle-axe into the
beast's eye. The dragon reared up with a deafening roar and lashed out missing
the warrior by inches. His second swing did not miss. Striking cleanly and
sending the warrior flying turned him into a stain on the cave wall.

The druids fought with all the rage of a terrible winter storm. They unleashed
a torrent of ice spells which created gaping wounds on the dragon's left side.
The others summoned the power of the earth and brought a portion of the caves
down on the beast's head.

The dragon now had one eye and was bleeding acidic blood from his head and
side. He roared and turned to the druids. The warriors, fearing the druids
would meet the same fate as the clerics took action. They gave a might battle-
cry and launched into the fray, all of them striking in unison. With their
combined might they sent the dragon back more than forty feet.

The druids gave a great hurrah as the beast struck the rock. The celebration
was short as the dragon recovered quickly and launched at the group of druids,
and warriors. They tried to escape but the dragon was blindingly quick. He
caught the majority in his jaws and turned them to chunks of meat with his many
teeth.

Being the best marksman it was decided that I stay and the rest of my mates
run down to face the beast. Their speed and guile kept them out of reach and
distracted the dragon enough for the warriors to regain their feet. They
renewed their attack, warriors and thieves fighting side-by-side.

Suddenly the dragon spun and sent his tail towards his potential meals. Those
who were not quick enough to dodge were laid low or chopped in half. The
carnage of that one hit was enough to freeze the survivors where they stood.
The druids' call to battle woke them and they again resumed the onslaught.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned. It was my friend Petre of the order of
clerics. He was badly burned and the flesh where his arm had been still boiled.
He did his best to gurgle out a request. "You.. dag.. da-gul..."

I obliged and produced the ancient blade. Petre's eyes rolled back into his head
and he stood erect as if a wooden pole had been shoved through his body.
A great white light glowed from within and was forced outward. He shoved his
hands upward and spoke his last words. "DRIVE THIS INTO HIS DARK HEART, MY
FRIEND!"

He forced both hands downward and his entire essence poured through them and
into my blade. Petre then collapsed as an empty husk onto the rock. My friend
lay dead beside me, having forfieted his life for a last rite. My dagger now
glowed with a bright white light and seemed to pulse.

To my horror I looked over the ledge and glimpsed the dragon rearing up and
my group of people fleeing for their lives. I scrambled for an arrow as the drag
on roared. As he took in his aim I striped the lace from my shoe and
tied my dagger to the arrow.

As I turned to aim the beast drew in his breath. I screamed and let my arrow
fly. The white light flew straight and true as if somehow guided by Petre
himself. The light found home. It buried itself deep within the dragon's heart
and sent him back with more force than a hundred men could conjure with their
bows. The dragon hit the wall and collapsed, then, with a pitiful wail he drew
a breath and moved no more.

A great cheer went up from the group. And weapons were forced into the air.
Kor, the leader walked over to claim our prize, the orb that lay grasped in
the slain beast's claw.

Kor stood next to the dragon and his head rose up. A great gasp came from the
group and Kor spun to meet the dragon's head crashing down on him. He drew his
massive sword and held is fast as the dragon drove his head onto Kor's sword
and into his own brain.

A second, more uneasy cheer rose up from the group as Kor threw the head off
from himself. He marched over to the dragon's claw and raised his sword. With
one mighty slash he relieved the arm of its hand which opened and spilled forth
an orb of purest black. He snatched up the orb and sheathed his sword.

The eldest druid cast a spell and a large plant grew from the ground and
opened. With us all inside the plant closed only to open again and we now found
ourselves in a forest and safe.

Your roleplaying post is well noted. I was considering posting it on the
literature page of Nilgiri. Now I do not have a problem with role playing but
I do have problems in enforcing such action. We're a mud run by volunteers
and I do not have the time to enforce role playing in Argoceania so could not
expect others to enforce it either. But let us suppose I say Argoceania is to
be role-play only. How do enforce it? Who will enforce it? What sort of
punishment do we give out? And who will be the ultimate authority on
role-playing? These things need to be considered.
.
As for the world, I do frown upon none medieval fantasy items and descriptions.
I have made an exception for one of Mobius' areas because he is a founder and
Rivin was powerless to stop it from happening :) Otherwise, if you do see
discrepency like the Taco Bell dog let it be known to me and I'll see what can
be done.

Argoceanians have the unique ability to make their way to Jora without
having to sail and without the maps making their way out into the population.
It is simple and it is easy. But there are a couple of rules.

1. You must be at least level 21
2. You have to go naked
.
In order to do this all you need to do is pray at the temple of Eltanin.
Once you get there, to get back you need to pray at the temple of Midgaard.
Once again the rules apply for getting back as getting there. You might
encounter problems like not being able to use the shops or the receptionist.
I want to hear about these type of things.

As some of you have noticed, "Diku" will announce possible new players who
have never logged into the realm of Nilgiri. This is a new feature of the
game. It is put in to bring to the attention all you "newbie helpers" out
there a chance to assist and show a newbie our little corner of the
Internet. And possibly induct a new member and another long term comrade
into what is the Forgotten World of Nilgiri. Players is what makes this
world thrive. So when you see a newbie, help them out, and I don't mean
dump a bunch of equipment on them and send them on their merry way. There
are many people who come from IRC, chatrooms, Mercs, ROMs, Mucks, Tinys
and other places that may not be familiar with how Nilgiri works and need
special attention. A lot of new players simply like to have their hand
held for a while before they strike out on their own.

I am all for raising the player base of Nilgiri. It makes this a more
interesting place to be. So, if there is anything I can do to help you
help the future new players of Nilgiri, please let me know.
